Ok, as I did with the Twitter scripts series (I´m already building the third one!), now I´m going to start something that many of you (probably all of you) are going to love: how to get traffic.

I know MANY people, newbies and not so newbies, are really looking for how to get more visitors to their sites. Believe me, I understand you, with my first websites my visitors were no more than 100 daily, and that is undoubtedly frustrating. So, before writing about the main topic of this post, let me give you some basic, and probably obvious, advice.

1. Read, read and read different ways on how to get traffic and test them all.
2. SEO is not everything: there are many more ways to get visitors to you website.
3. Use new social media to get visitors such us Twitter, Facebook, etc. Google Buzz could be a very good way send visitors to your web page, remember is a brand new service, try to explore different ways to use it for your benefit.

Twitter traffic

You all know that Twitter is THE thing on social media right now, people around the world just love it. Like it or not… you can´t deny that if you have a Twitter account with many followers you can show them whatever you want… like LINKS!

This is the reason why the most online marketers are using it as a marketing platform.

Ok, you are not going to be visited by millions in an hour, but in a few days this system is going to give you many good surprises. I bought it in the first days of january and I can say I´m very happy with it, mainly because of 2 things:

it runs on autopilot
the traffic you are going to receive is TARGETTED, and, as I always say, this is the most important one! Twitter traffic is incredibly targetted, this is people that are really looking for the information or product in your site

A directory script not just for links

This is not “just another” directory script. When you read this you instantly think in a LINKS directory. In this blog we have posted about other sites directory scripts before, but this one offer more choices.

First, the most important: it is free and open source. Build with popular technologies such as PHP 5 (OOP) and AJAX (jQuery), the platform uses the MVC architecture.

A different directory script

Start your own Twitter application website with a turnkey script [Part 2]

Well, about 2 months ago I wrote the 1st part of the Start your own Twitter application with a turnkey script, and here we have the second one .

First of all I want to thank Carol K. (my web business and marketing mentor), who recommended me this script.

With this Twitter Live Stream script you can create a live streaming site, AUTO UPDATED, all with Twitter content, which, as Carol taught me, is the best content to feed from right now. Why? because you can generate one new page with dozens or even hundreds of tweets that are currently distributed in dozens or hundreds of other pages, so it is like you get “little portions of other pages and put them all in yours new page” as Carol said, and that is exactly what this script does!

How to properly use this script (my experience)

Well, I have been used this script since August, and it already made me more than $90 with Adsense, I know this is not an awesome amount, but considering I just started using it (about 2 months ago), and the price I paid for it ($20), $90 is not bad at all.

So, the best way to use this script is obviously with a niche site (and, as you may know, niches are endless).

Choose a niche, then select 3 keywords on that niche, then buy a domain with one of those keywords on its name (I bought a cheap .info), set up the site, and then simply make some links to it (from 10 to 20 directories, make some comments on related blogs, etc), then just be patient.

Script Review: A directory built with Wordpress

There are many scripts to start a full working directory, but not so many to build one using Wordpress. And of course, when you read a “script for Wordpress”, you inmediately think in a plugin, but this one is not.

You will be able to start your own directory with a Wordpress theme! Yes, I also got surprised at the first time, but it works very well to be honest.

DirectoryPress, is a premium theme that allows you to run a directory under Wordpress, and you can choose between a general web directory or a link bid directory. With a link bid directory, the advertisers will be able to choose how much are they willing to pay per click.

Make money with your directory

DirectoryPress allows you to accept paid submissions, and this system makes it very easy. You will be able to accept payments through: Paypal, 2checkout and many more. And believe me, you CAN make money with directories.

Different directory templates

This theme comes with many ready made templates you can use. This is a good thing, as these templates looks very well, but I have to mention one bad thing here, that the XTHML code is not as clean as it could.

DirectoryPress features

Some of the most important features I saw in this “script”:

it is very SEO friendly,
its dashboard is very complete, you have a lot of features, you will have a solely module just for your directory full of options to customize it,
it works on all most known browsers,
paid submissions are possible and well managed,
it is very compatible with other plugins, such as wp-pagenavi or the rating plugins; this is mainly because DirectoryPress works as a theme (it will be “installed” in your themes folder).

These scripts are very easy to use and the most important thing is that… they are absolutely free.

phpBB: It has a complete documentation as well as a powerful backend panel. This is one of the most used CMS for forums.
Simple Machines Forum: This is another option based in YABB and Perl, all this working with mySQL. This script is available in several languages and has many options.
MyBB: This is another free script to start a forum, which it has PostgreSQL and SQLite support. Its control panel has calendar management and the option to send emails, within other features.
bbPress: Finally, one that runs under Wordpress. It supports extensions, plugin and a variety of other things.
